Need to buy a laptop for college. Please suggest.

I'll be going to 2nd year next month and i really need to buy a new laptop, but am torn up on the fact that if i should choose a gaming laptop(which will have a less battery life but will be more performant) or something like a macbook or ideapad or something like that(basically with better battery backup but a little less performant). I am pursuing CS and have to travel everyday.
I dont game too much (because my current laptop cant support modern games, i only have played pre-2010s game on my laptop) but i would like to, though i won't mind if i am able to play AAA titles at medium settings.
Would you guys please suggest if i should prefer the gaming laptops or the slim ones with better battery, in the range of 60-70k(please name a few as well)? I want it to last till my degree ends at least and need it to have sufficient performance so that i can do programming stuff, casual gaming(wont mind AAA games on medium settings as i said) or experiment with something like video editing or something like that(if need be)?
