[BUYING ADVICE] Used bike for daily use, touring and light off-road – Budget max €7000
Hi everyone! I’m looking for some advice on buying a used motorcycle that fits my needs and budget. Here’s what I’m looking for:
Main requirements: • Daily commuting (urban and extra-urban use) • Frequent medium-range trips (150–300 km), plus the occasional long trip • Primarily road use, but I’d like to be able to handle light off-road, gravel roads, etc. • Maximum budget: €7000 • Must be at least Euro 3 compliant (I live in a place where older bikes may be restricted due to emissions laws) • Needs to be comfortable enough for longer trips • Reliability is key – I’m not looking for crazy performance, just a solid, trustworthy ride
🏍️ Bikes I’m considering: 1. Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré – I like the comfort and style, but I’m a bit concerned about weight and handling in urban areas or light trails. Fuel consumption? Common issues? 2. Honda XL750 Transalp – Probably a bit above budget right now, but seems like a solid all-rounder. 3. Yamaha Ténéré 700 – Interesting option, but I’ve heard mixed things about long-distance comfort. Any real-world feedback? 4. KTM 990 Adventure – I love the look and character, but I’m worried about fuel consumption and running costs.
❓Specific questions: • What are the best model years for each of these bikes? • Around how many kilometers do they start having major issues or requiring expensive maintenance? • Any known/common problems to watch out for? • Any other suggestions for bikes that fit this type of use?
For reference: I’m 183 cm tall and weigh around 80 kg.
Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who shares advice or suggestions! 🙏
