Seeking advice on finding outdoorsy gay male community in non-urban areas
Hi everyone — I’ve been holding off on asking this because I want to be respectful, and I’m hoping to avoid any unintended negativity. I want to start by saying that I fully support and love our community, and I’m genuinely asking this from a place of wanting connection.
I’ve been living remotely in high-elevation Colorado for a few months, working on my mental health and reconnecting with myself. Now that I’m in a better place, I’m looking to build friendships with other gay men who are genuinely passionate about the outdoors — hiking, fishing, camping, mountain biking, etc. Not just the occasional adventure, but guys who really live and breathe it.
I’m also hoping to eventually find a partner — ideally a husband — who shares these passions. Someone who’s into a masculine-for-masculine connection, both in lifestyle and attraction. I’ve found that, at least where I am now, many of the masculine men I meet tend to be bisexual and are looking for femme guys or trans folks. I fully respect that, but it’s not what I’m personally seeking.
So my question is: Are there particular states, regions, or rural/suburban areas in the U.S. where this kind of culture exists among gay men? Or is this just a unicorn I’m chasing? Either way, I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts and experiences.
Thanks so much in advance!
