Can a DU Programme student get an Honours degree by doing a 4th year?

Hey everyone, I’m currently pursuing a 3-year undergraduate Programme course from Delhi University (not Honours). I’ve heard that under the new NEP system, there’s an option to do a 4th year (research year) after completing your 3-year UG.

My question is: If I do the 4th year research component, will I be awarded an Honours degree? Or does this apply only to those who are already in an Honours course from the start?

I’m a bit confused because the Programme course is more generalized and not subject-specific like Honours. So I’m wondering if the 4th year option even exists for Programme students, and whether it can upgrade my degree status.

If anyone has official info, personal experience, or any insight, please share. It’ll really help!

Thanks!
