[WA]Applied for a job, brought my passport which they scanned, now asking for my social security card

Hi I recently applied for a job and went to training where they scanned my passport for the employment verification and everything went fine. However now they are asking for me to bring my social security card to verify that the ssn I provided matches…

I have never ran into this before, is this a legit inquiry? Can’t you verify online? Could it be that they think I am using someone else’s number? I have gotten all my previous jobs with just my passport. I actually would have to go reapply for a social security card so I want to know if it’s worth the effort.
