Deforestation and loss of green cover in Kalamassery
I have been tracking the loss of green cover in areas of Kochi and here is an example. The below google maps images taken over different years show you the deforestation in Kalamassery, specifically the green cover along Glass factory road. The first image is from 2017 where you see the full extent of the rubber forest. Note the green cover in the portion south of the river and see how that changes over the years in subsequent images. The second image from 2023 shows deforestation in the areas where now exists a sports academy building, and in the south western part where there are some apartment and houses now. Furthermore the latest image from 2025 shows devastating loss of large portions of the green cover where now stands Luxon Tata car stock yard. By simply eyeballing the various images I estimate over 60% loss of green cover in this area.
