weather in august

hello, i’m traveling to washington and planning a day trip to mt. rainier in the first week of august. the weather looks like it contrasts a lot between morning and afternoon, so i’m wondering what the best thing to wear is? i.e. should i wear some long pants or can i get away with some biker shorts? and do i bring a jacket with me?
