Improving Double’s game by playing Single’s

In your experience, have you become better in doubles by playing singles?

I want to improve my double’s DUPR to +4.0 (currently at 3.2) but is really difficult to either find available open plays or just play with people that are not jerks (mostly regulars that have their very own group) so I literally stopped playing doubles. I am 3.9 in singles, and I am able to defeat +4.2 players (for both singles and doubles) but I am having a difficult time finding the right crowd where I can regularly play competitive double’s DUPR. Has anyone has met nice people playing singles and then transitioned as a duo to play competitive DUPR?

What is ironic is that the 3.5-4.5 double’s DUPR, who think they play better than Ben Johns and Sinner, can’t even sustain a decent rally because they run out of breath and lack athleticism. Is most of the PB community like this?
