The Horrors Of A Starved But Proverbial Mind
Part 1- The Cellar Door Parable
A double door system much like you’d see in an office or a school sat before me, but a stone arch-way covered in mysterious runes engulfed it. As I opened the doors, I stepped inside a pitch black room. I could then see a light in the distance, and I decided to walk towards it. Smaller lights sputtered off of the larger one like little fireflies dispersing in a field on a dark summer night. As I moved closer, the light got bigger. I could start to see a shape behind the light, but could not make out what it was. Was it a large rock or some sort of structure? Wait, was it a face? Before I could process it, a gigantic demonic dragon face with its mouth hung wide open.
The light was slowly drifting inside the cave-like opening, and I couldn’t help myself from drifting inside it as well, or maybe it was moving towards me and has now swallowed me whole. Either way I was now inside a new dark abyss and I could see another large structure moving towards me. Faint moans and groans could be heard as the large dark mass came my way, and the light revealed it to be a large collection of people all tangled together, forming a large meteor of human despair. It just hung before me and spun slowly, some people trying to reach out to me for help. But I couldn’t help them, no one could. Down in this dark deep abyss of agony, there was no salvation.
The sphere of entangled human torture was drifting closer, and one of the desperate hands grabbed my arm, beginning to pull me in. I tried to rip my arm away but to no prevail, their dirty sharp finger nails tearing into the flesh of my arm in the process. Soon I was pulled entirely in, but awoke washed up on a shore. A menacing green sea sent waves my way, moving me further up, and a dark silver sky hosted strange patterns spread across it. Small wooden crosses covered the beach, and as I took a moment to gather myself I could see a robed woman floating in the sky, drifting closer to me. Her robe was blue and white with gold trim and runes glowed along where the buttons would be. Her skin seemed porcelain, and her eyes glowed white hot. I could hear her humming echoing all around us and she was now face to face with me, a small grin forming as two blood tears dropped from her eyes. “You’re ready” she said.
____
It was a normal Sunday like any other. I had no stress in my life leading up to this so I had no reason to believe I had lost my mind. I was grounded in fact all my life, which is probably why I grew out of religion long ago. But what happened to me on this particular Sunday would send all of my beliefs and opinions out of the window of a house built in logic and reason. On Sunday, January 13th 2013, at approximately 11:15 AM, I exited my office and entered my front room to find an old rusty cellar door in the center of the floor. I froze for a moment, wondering what exactly I was looking at, as my mind raced to explain this. It couldn’t come up with anything other than someone was in my home, so I grabbed my gun from the safe and made my rounds. Nothing. I just sat on the foot rest looking at this door, and debated trying to open it for about an hour until I finally built up the courage to walk up to it.
It looked ungodly old, and a quick kick with my foot told me it was indeed real. The cellar door was not locked, and it squeaked an evil hiss as I lifted the heavy door open. Painted inside the door in red was the phrase “you’re ready”, and I quickly got up to pack a bag of exploration gear. I guess when a logical brain is forced to process illogical information, it either fights or flies, and my brain told me to explore this insanity. If only I knew what that cellar door actually was, I’d realize how wrong I was… After packing my gear and grabbing a flashlight, I stood in front of the opened door and told myself “I’m ready” while reading the crude “you’re ready” note written on the door at the same time, not meaning to. I was ready.
Creeping slowly down the dark chute, I decided to tie a rope to the outside in case I needed to climb it, I didn’t know the condition of ladder to the chute but it seemed sturdy as I climbed down. I climbed for a seemingly long time which triggered me to stop half way, contemplating climbing back up. What was I even doing? That’s when I could see a flashing light above me accompanied with jingles and clanks as something seemed to swing back and forth, hitting the sides of the cellar door chute. It was coming down in rapid speed, and I could now make out a figure. A loud scream filled the walls of the chute with no other place to go other than the holes in my ears. I couldn’t climb down fast enough, the figure was gaining on me and fast, and I was forced to let go, now falling with greater speed than the figure could climb. As I fell, I could hear distant chimes as grains of sand flew into my view. Soon I’d realize the sand grains were actually embers, and before I knew it I smacked into an ocean of black water.
As I swam towards the shore in the distance, I couldn’t help but notice that the sky was just a reflection of the water I was in, as I could see myself in this reflected sky. Moving closer to the shore, I kept glancing up to see myself, but I’d soon see a large black silhouette under me, and it was growing larger. Looking down I could see a horrifying sea creatures face moving closer, and I couldn’t swim faster. Just as I was about to be snatched up I made it to the shore, which sent the deep sea demon back down into its depths. Catching my breath, I could see a small castle in the distance, and made my way towards it. Along the walking path vines and leafs would reach out for me, which turned my slow pace into a fast one. The leafs were now shaking and rustling violently, like emerald flames in a sea of fuel. As I entered the castle, ahead of me slabs of dry wall were up against the castles cobblestone walls, as if someone was trying to make the room look like an office. Or a waiting room. That’s when I saw the double doors engulfed in runes, and entered.
