Kyper, chapters 1 & 2 [High Fantasy, ~8000 words]

I'm new to fiction writing and have never attempted to write a novel before. I'm just looking to see if I'm heading in the right direction before I write anymore. Would be especially interested to hear thoughts on pacing. Thanks.

Idk what else to put to each the word minimum so here's the first paragraph.

"The streets of Ferro were dusty, loud, filled with the sounds of shouting and pans clattering. The heat made Serin’s cloak damp with sweat turning it from dark blue to grey as sand and dust clung to it. It would have been intolerable if not for the smells in the air. In Ferro it seemed every other building was a restaurant or cafe and there was a food cart on every corner, sometimes multiple arguing loudly over territory. Where there wasn’t the smell of food there was the smell of incense and hashish, so thick that you could almost cut it. The two had been trudging through the busy streets for what felt like hours, but Serin knew it had probably been less than one."
