Jailbreak not working on 11th gen paperwhite

I'm trying to jailbreak mine using this tutorial https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/WinterBreak/ and I keep getting stuck after step 5. No matter what I do mesquito doesn't come up. I've tried both troubleshooting methods and they haven't worked. Whenever I go to the store and disable airplane mode my kindle says "updating your store experience" and then goes to the store homepage. I can't seem to find any files with a name similar to update.bin.tmp.partial but there is one folder called .hidden that i cant seem to unhide and keeps coming back after I delete it. Are the update files hidden? I'm so confused.
