Low yeild

I finally got an MVM+ to produce a drinkable vodka. All of my previous attempts just ended up tasting like heads, despite a very low-heads input product.

My wash is modified birdwatchers: 10lbs of Sugar to 5 gallons of water. Fermaid instead of lemon+tomato, EC-1118. Left to ferment totally dry and settle out to clear. SG 1.090 FG 0.998. (Very consistent across a dozen washes a year)

I have used this wash many many times, and I know that in a pot still it produces very close to a "perfect" output of 465ML of ethanol per gallon. With a deep stripping run followed by slow spirit run I can get about 400ML of high quality hearts@ 90% and about 100ML of heads @ 90%+ . Five gallons of wash provides almost exactly 2L of finished hearts before dilution.

With the MVM+ I have run 3 gallons and got total return of 600ML of hearts @ 85% and 150ML of heads at 90%+ The run took approximately 8 hours. That means that that MVM+ is yielding well under 50% of the ethanol from the product.

Easy? Sure. But totally inefficient.

Anyone want to school me on how to increase yield without introducing heads back into the hearts? I'd rather be slower and collect more efficiently than have more waste, as my fermentation space is my main limitation. I want as neutral a flavor in the spirit as possible.
