New Passport – Can I Update QID from Outside Qatar?

My passport is almost full, so I’ll renew it in my home country because I am staying there during this holiday. Can I update the new passport details on Metrash while I’m still abroad?

I’m confused about how the data matching works. When coming back, during check-in and later immigration, which document do they check against the system — the new passport or my QID (which still has the old passport number)?

If anyone has done this recently, I’d really appreciate a step-by-step experience.
