Planning Hiking-Trip: Deadlines and differences March to May
Hello everyone,
I am planning to visit Tenerife in the period March to May 2026 to go hiking for like 10 days. Are there any catches regarding the months or deadlines that I need to have booked up to a certain point in advance or that I should take into account?
- flights/hotels and especially rental cars, is the usual three to five months in advance enough (e.g. booking at the beginning of December for March) or am I already too late?
- with regard to the weather, March to May seem quite identical and according to the common-question-topic each unpredictable. Tendency: the number of rainy days is decreasing.
a. What about fog, does it also decrease towards summer or is it also unpredictable?
b. Does May feel significantly warmer than March (e.g. less wind) or is the difference almost irrelevant?
-
how does parking work? For example, Charmoga feels like it has ten parking spaces. This means that if fifteen vehicles set off in the morning, are the last five that arrive at 06:30 out of luck? Parking on the country road on the way to Charmoga itself is not possible because of the narrowness.

is it less busy on the hiking trails in March than in April/May?
-
in a video of emigrants it was about considerable traffic jams on Tenerife. Where are the focal points? Is it only during the main season end of may and further down the summer season?
Otherwise, according to my research:
-
tickets: regarding nature only for Masca Gorge and Teide National Park necessary way in advance; for the cable car to Teide probably no reservation necessary in advance
-
hiking trails: there are currently still closures due to the forest fires; so I have to inform myself in advance, but the trails themselves are not ticketed.
-
vaccinations: no special ones necessary.
-
national holidays: no special ones and only a few days (i.e. no Golden Week)
-
seasonal natural phenomena: almond blossom from January to March, tajnias from the end of April
