Worried sick about the future.

I’ve wanted to be a genetic counselor for 5-6 years now. I worked really hard to get exposure, shadowed, and got the grades I needed. I worked throughout all of undergrad to be able to graduate debt free. This last cycle, I finally got into a program and felt like my hard work was paying off, and I was on track to go after my dream.

With the new BBB and state of the job market, I’m wondering if this was all a mistake. I feel trapped by the binding agreement of grad school, when I’d been looking forward to the relief I’d get from this accomplishment. I don’t have financial support from my parents, and will not be able to finish school without loans. I was counting on the grad plus loans, but now I’m just feeling lost and discouraged. I find myself looking for a way out, in fear of crippling debt, when this used to be something I was so excited about. I feel so unmotivated. I don’t have a plan B.

I still want to be a GC, more than anything, but I feel like I’m working towards a lifetime of debt and unemployment. Does anyone have advice?
