I rebuilt my old laggy cat game from scratch - now it runs smooth, has a story, an online login/register system and a global leaderboard 🐱💥

Back in 2024, I released a rough little game about a cat. It was laggy, had no story, bad effects - and barely felt like a real game. So I pulled it from itch.io and decided to rebuild it from the ground up.

I spent (about) the next year reworking everything - visuals, movement, polish, even adding a bit of story.

It's still 100% Pygame, but now it finally feels like a game I'm proud of.

Some new stuff:

  • A full story + intro sequence
  • Visual effects I didn’t think were possible in Pygame
  • An actual login/register system
  • And... yep, a working online leaderboard 😅

Here's a short before/after video of the difference (This video does not show the version I talked about earlier, but the oldest version of the game I found on my old SD-Card)
