Questions about a bad blister

Physician Responded

Hi everyone,

I (60 years old with neuropathy)walked quite a distance today and didn’t realize that I had developed a really bad blister on the bottom of one of my toes. If it matters, it is the toe next to my pinkie toe.

I have neuropathy in my feet so I didn’t realize that not only did I have a blister, the blister had burst and the skin had already come off when I discovered it. Two layers of skin came off completely and there is already another blister forming on what is left. The area is really large - it’s the entire bottom of the toe and even going up the sides a bit. What’s left looks like raw meat.

So with that, I have bandaids and Vaseline with me and nothing else. Is there anything else I need? I’m going to have to walk the next two days - it won’t be too much - maybe four miles each day.

I will cover with Vaseline and a bandaid during the day but I have heard that it does need to time to get to air. Is that right? Should I leave it bandage-free at night?

Thanks for any tips! Sorry to make it a long story.
