Struggling with hopelessness
I know hopelessness and despair are actually sins, signs of weakness of faith, but everywhere one looks in the world, one seems to see the spectacle of Satan triumphant. The wealthiest and most powerful people on the planet have dropped even the illusion of philanthropy. The polite fiction of moral leadership is gone, and those in power are now openly sadistic and ruthless. War rages everywhere and wider more destructive war threatens at every turn. People in the younger generations(like me) are virtual serfs and prospects for raising a family seem dim. Democracy is falling to pieces all across the western world. I know I must understand that the worldly powers have always been ultimately Satanic, and the ultimate victory will be always God’s, but within the context of my brief time on this earth, I feel great despair. Three years ago, I found my mother’s body in the bathroom-she had died suddenly from a brain hemorrhage-and everything since has felt like a collapse into Hell, for me personally and the world at large. I do not feel God’s presence. Where is he?
