What can be done about potential cat theft? Wales
My partner and I were out with his mother (my MIL) today, and her husband up and left without warning. Their cat has not been seen since he left. They have been out looking for the cat, but there has been no sign. MIL’s husband turned the outdoor cameras off before leaving, so MIL thinks husband did this so he could take the cat undetected. Despite the husband claiming the cat is his, the cat is registered under MIL’s name at the vet and on the microchip as well. He also does not pay anything towards cat’s costs.
I just need some advice on if we can do anything about this. I know there was that recent pet abduction law for England and Northern Ireland, but I’m not sure about anything that covers Wales. Any advice would be welcome.
For context, MIL’s husband has been reported to police (when he left in a similar way in 2020) for coercive control/abuse. (I witnessed the abusive behaviour myself and had to speak to police in 2020 as well) Their relationship has been on and off since. We are all worried he has taken the cat to cause further distress.
