Renting a car 4 days in LA, what should I get on top of damage waiver?

I have full coverage in my state but should I ever get involved in an accident in LA, should I also add the SLP? What is the extended protection EP for? Is SLP similar to comprehensive and collision insurance on State Farm/ progressive? also what type of car would you usually get a midsize, full size sedan, or a midsize suv? Thanks
