Wisconsin Daily Driver Considerations

I'm casually planning my next car (daily driver). My son's inheriting mine and I want something fun, lightweight, agile, and in manual. I also live in Wisconsin. I'm open to dissenting opinions, but based on all the usual reasons, I'm thinking a Miata, and an ND3 for the updated safety features (and probably a used 2024 or later just to avoid the initial depreciation hit).

If I go the Miata route, given I'm planning this for a year-round Midwest daily driver, are their any trims or features I should prioritize? Any planned maintenance? My thought process was:

  • Snow tires. I've read that enough to know it's non-negotiable.
  • Undercoat & regular washes for rust prevention.
  • Soft top or RF: I'm still going back and forth. I think the RF looks great and seems the most practical, the soft top is more immersive and lighter, with less wind noise (although I'm not sure how practical the top down is at highway speeds, my guess is "not very"). It will be my first Miata and my first convertible, so whatever I get will probably impress me, but I'm also living in a state that has snow and sometimes severely cold temperatures, but I also dress for it and would avoid the most extreme temperatures unless it was necessary (in which case I can use my wife's car or borrow one of my kids' cars). Down the road I could also get a hard top, but that sounds like a modest PITA.
  • Trim: Was thinking the Club might be a bit more fun and has LSD for better traction. However, the GT also has better sound reduction and (not a huge deal as I could upgrade it, but) a better sound system. I would mainly be using it for daily commuting and looking for more winding country roads, but I'm in the Midwest, so it's not all THAT winding. Eventual track days (and some sort of advanced driving lessons) would be kind of a fun option, but honestly that would not be something I would genuinely anticipate spending a lot of time on even if I think it would be awesome.
  • ND3: Mainly for any improved safety features or handling, and better transmission. That said, since I'm planning on used I'm happy to hear any dissenting opinions or

Any thoughts? Feel free to give guidance as far as options or if you think this is an exceptionally harebrained idea.
