Any other young dads feel like they're treated as if they're incompetent?
I'm in my mid-20s with a 1-year-old son. It's been unusually hot here in the Midwest lately, and every time I’m out alone with my kid, I get hit with the same questions from friends and family: “Did you put sunscreen on him?” “Is he drinking enough water?” “Do you have the AC cranked up in the car?”
Like… yeah, obviously. I’m his dad. I take care of him. I’ve at least figured this much out in the past year.
What really gets to me is that these same people constantly tell me I’m a great dad, but still treat me like I’m clueless or need step-by-step instructions just to keep my son safe. It’s frustrating, and honestly, it feels disrespectful. I seriously doubt they’d ask his mom those kinds of questions. In fact, I know they don’t.
Just wondering if any other dads, especially younger ones, deal with this kind of thing. Does it get better? How do you handle it?
This is really starting to get to me. I already struggle with depression and self-doubt, and stuff like this just makes it worse.
