[hoo] should have featured more diverse weaponry

I love the books and the characters are awesome, but I think Riordan really dropped the ball when it came to the weaponry everyone used. I get that the ancients used a lot of swords, but I feel like the final physical weapon cast should have been more than sword, sword, machines, sword, sword, bow, and sword.

frank used a spear and a bow. that was awesome! more people should be using cool and different weapons.

leo has machines and can shoot fire out of his arms. that was awesome! not every fighter has to be physically strong.

piper and annabeth use their knives and resort to swords as well. boo, boring. both of your boyfriends have swords, please be original. regardless, daggers are supplementary weapons, not main weapons, so a change was due for annabeth (since she is more of a strategical fighter). piper loses her sword and keeps her knife. fine

hazel uses a sword. this sword is respectable, as she is the only cavalry in the group. she was also the only woman in the 7 to use a sword (up until the Tragedies mentioned above), so i hold her weapon choice in high regards.

percy and jason both have objects that turn into weapons. percy's always transforms into a sword, while jason's turns into a sword or a javelin, depending on how he flips the coin or wills his sword. i have few thoughts on these two. percy was the first character we were introduced to, so having a simple weapon is fine in my eyes. jason is the first character we read from in the lost hero, so his weapon choices are fine too, even though he defaults to sword most of the time, under the suspicious guise that he didn't know to make a javelin.

this doesn't even talk about grover (awesome nature boy), nico (boo emo swordsman), and reyna (badass but typical sword user)

so how would i change up the weapons used in these books?

- hazel and percy: keep their swords

- frank and leo: keep their weapons

- jason: keep his weapon, but have him use his javelin some more, and play support a few more times

- piper: piper is more of a negotiator, as her charmspeak is her strongest weapon. i think she should have been equipped with her knife as well as a shield. while they are both support-ish weapons, it would allow her to fend off enemies while being able to talk to charm them

- annabeth: while mostly a thinker, she plays crucial roles in many battles, and needs a strong, close quarters weapon to support that. among the cast, there are currently no heavy weapons, but annabeth wouldn't fare well with a huge war axe. i think she should be relegated with a flail. not a very greek weapon at all, but it would give her an identity as an armor crusher, using her wits to land critical hits

i would have loved to give someone a war axe, but the only person who could have used it is frank, who already has an awesome bow he is really good with

if you have any thoughts about this, let me know. also let me know if more cool weapons are used (i haven't read past the blood of olympus)
