I (f19) snooped on my bfs (M19) phone and I don't know what to do.
I snooped on my boyfriend's phone about a week ago. He's not particularly open about his relationships with other people, but he's particularly shady about his relationships with other women. This includes someone who I've had an issue with for close to two years and another woman who is a coworker. I believed he was not necessarily cheating on me, but I felt he was hiding things from me that I didn't feel needed to be hidden. I looked very briefly (30 seconds maybe) at the chats he had with both women on Snapchat, and found he had been lying to me about the last time he had messaged and how often he was messaging the first woman. He claims to have barely spoken to her, that they only had professional relationship and the last time they spoke was maybe last September. The last (saved) message was from may. There was also messages suggesting that during a period last year he had spent time with her alone, which he has always told me he never had. He also had her saved under a stupid name, which doesn't bother me but is important later. The second woman, the coworker, he has always (ALWAYS) described to me as a bitch and annoying. He says about how he has had problems with her at work and that he's complained to HR about her, the works. I had no real concern about her until recently when he told me about how she and her boyfriend had broken up, and stopped complaining about her. Also had very very little to say about how he was taking himself and her to another part of the country for work. Also said to me that they only messaged about work. Looking through the messages that was clearly not the case. The snaps that had been saved in chat were the same chats that he'd message me through the day (talking about what he was doing ect.), which were not about work and honestly I thought that he sent me those messages especially for me. I was quite upset about it.
I decided to try confront him about it without telling him about the snooping. I asked about the last time he messaged the first woman and he lied to me about it, I asked him about the spending time alone with her, which he did admit to eventually (I was hurt because I've asked about it so many times) and eventually trying to talk to him about how they at the very least did not have a professional relationship. He lied to me multiple times about the stupid name claiming that it was saved as her full name and that he'd changed it months ago. He finally admitted to it being changed in the last 7 days.
The second woman I asked if he really did only message her about work, and he said he did. When we saw eachother next he showed me his phone voluntarily and he had deleted all of the messages between them that I had seen, except for the work related ones and a snap streak she had saved in chat of an office. I tried to be like 'somethng isn't right, why would she save a blurry photo of an office but there's absolutely nothing before that for a year and he got loudly defensive that he hadn't deleted chats and to stop asking.
I am not proud of the snooping in the first place. I've never done it and never want to do it again. I think if I had told him about how I felt to his face (instead of snooping) there and then he would've brushed it off or lied. Nonetheless, I feel I still could've tried something else rather than snooping. I feel awful for it. I've spent the week preaching being honest to each other, and I myself am lying to him. I want to truly be able to move on, but I don't feel I can if I don't admit my lie and he doesn't admit his. I can't stop thinking about the deleted messages, and why when he claims he has nothing to hide he has chosen to delete them. What should I do?
