I don't have my hats DS1

I understand a basic hat should be unlocked at the beginning of the game. I can't find it in my private room, in my inventory or as something I can fabricate. Is this a big or did I miss a step? For context I'm in Episode 5 so I thought I'd see it by now lol Appreciate any help, thank you!
