My 11 year old self never would have believed that I'd enjoy playing Bach one day but here we are
I originally started the violin at age 11 with Suzuki and so many of the pieces, especially Bach, were so boring to me. Over 20 years later I am learning to play again and my new teacher has me revisiting the Bach minuets in Suzuki 1. I was a bit hesitant at first but agreed because I knew there would be a point even if I didn't understand why yet. We first started by focusing on bowing with a more baroque style. After that we started adding in ornamentation. She taught me different types and notated a few ornaments in one of the pieces. I was then encouraged to experiment at home and add in my own ornamentation. I had no idea that playing baroque music could be so interesting and fun! I just needed to play it closer to how it really deserves to be played instead of "student style" as my teacher calls it.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences with baroque or any other type of music?
