Something worth it

I am almost 42. Grew up with SNES games and fell in love with secret of mana, breath of fire 2 and the the final fantasy series. I stopped having time to play those games after final fantasy 15. Switched to souls games and games like Hades. Also had a street fighter 3 and 4 "addiction". Loved star craft 2 and now I really want to get back into jrpgs. But what is worth my limited time as an adult. Something my wife can watch me play that doesn't confuse her too much. We have played visions of mana that she laughed her ass off as she is a bookworm because the very simple story amused her. Now I am looking for a game with good story that isn't that Grund heavy. Maybe smth not that demanding regarding controls as I want her to try to help me once in a while. She only plays really retro PC games like drod or crazy machines.
