Where do we start
I’m taking the first steps to actually trying to buy a home.l for the first time. My husband (29m) and I (28f) and our dog (1m) rent in NJ. We live pay check to paycheck. I am in school starting my undergrad. We want to move within the next 2.5 years, out of state. We’re looking at WV, VA area right now. I just randomly spoke to a real estate agent in VA because why not? She said the first thing we should do is get pre-qualified for a loan to see what we’re working with financially. She said that 20% down payment is good for a conventional loan, while 3.5%-5% is better for USDA and Everyday loans.
I need to ramp up my credit in these 2.5 years. Think I’m at 600-630 right now. But I have some time. How do you save up 20% if you don’t have a price in mind yet? Can someone explain their first steps to successfully owning a home? I just want to know where to start to do it right because it sure is intimidating. Thank you!
