Retaining wall and trees

Hello,

My local electrical company wants to come out and trim my hedges, which is directly next to a four-foot retaining wall, which is probably 70 years old. My wife and I are discussing and researching whether it is ok to remove the trees as the electrical company wants them completely or should we just have them trim/cut the trees in half. In years past, they would cut the trees and brush down below their level and trim them again in about three years. Our electric company said there are maples in the hedge, which is why they want them removed. Online indicates that trees can either help or harm retaining walls, so I figured I would come to you all asking for your opinion.

Thanks!
