Help for my wife

My wife is looking to get a bike but neither of us know where to start. She is hoping to just do casual riding around town and possibly get a little trailer for our two toddlers.

Can anyone advise on some good brands or bikes. I would say budget is less than 500 pounds and she is early 30s.
