Can the commune force you to install a specific style of door ?

I’m living in an old townhouse in Ixelles whose entry door is some shoddy piece of shit.

I want to change it because my bike got stolen, the door doesn’t close very well and honestly I’m not feeling safe. The other owners want to change it as well. The whole frame is shitty.

But when I went to the commune, the told me that if I wanted to change doors and mainframe, I had to install a Brussels-type door, the same as the original door, which I had to retrieve from the original archives. I had a quote from a few builders, that shit is costly as fuck (15k€ ! But the original door is a custom made three meters high so that tracks.)

I understand their pov but this would drain my finances hard.

Is that true or was the commune person talking out of their arse ?
