I disagree with a diagnosis… what now?

Question

I apologize if this is the wrong sub. I don’t know where else to post it.

I have struggled with mental health for a long time. I am not going to go too in-detail on my specific struggles, but my psychiatrist just diagnosed me with adhd… I do not agree with this diagnosis. I firmly disagree, actually. So what now?

I don’t exactly have an idea of what kind of mental illness I have, but what I described to her is hallucinations, inappropriate behavior (not sexual behavior, but inappropriate in the sense that I don’t act “correctly” relative to social contexts— like for example, laughing at a time when no one should be laughing), random and extremely reckless actions, and irrational beliefs… none of that sounds particularly like ADHD at all? At least, not to my knowledge. I’m not an expert, but I feel like I wasted money on this psychiatrist and it’s making everything worse for me. The only symptom I have that she described as being similar to ADHD symptoms is that I have a really short attention span and bad short-term memory. That could easily be related to something else, couldn’t it?

I don’t know. Maybe I’m upset for no reason. I‘m just supposed to be getting help, and I feel like I’m not getting that, even though I’m doing everything I’m ”supposed” to do (like reaching out to a professional for assistance). Why? I hate this.
