Supply teaching whilst on maternity

Hi, I’m currently on maternity leave and will be returning back in January and receiving SMP until end of August. So after August, I will have no income until January, does anyone know if I’m able to go on supply from September to December just to pick up days here and there for some extra money until I’m due back in work? Are there any legal issues or tax issues etc
