Awkward situations

How realistic do you think the awkward situations are when it comes to someone that is being spoken about joining a group? It's always edited like there is a group talking about a potential traitor and then that person walks in and everyone goes quiet, the potential traitor sits down, no one speaks and then everyone makes their exit. How close to the truth do you think this is?
