Should India have its own native social media platform like China and Russia?
Given the amount of insane hate that we are seeing on social media (Insta, TikTok and Twitter), do you guys think India should have its own social media network siloed from rest of the world.
There is valid criticism of India and culture, but other group of people take it to extreme. Gen Z around the world seem to hate India and the people a lot. We have our own language, food, culture and entertainment media. It’s only natural we should have our own social media. I believe, India needs to focus internally and solve its own problem before engaging with rest of the world which is becoming increasingly hostile at least online.
China has its own version of the social media with firewall and so does Russia. It’s 2025 and making social media isn’t a rocket science given we have so many people in IT. The positives outweigh the negatives. The best thing Modi has done is banning TikTok. I don’t want the platforms to become a right wing echo chamber (I absolutely dislike Indian right wingers) but I strongly believe we as a country should have its own native social media. What do you guys think?
