HID disabled, usb still works

I recently connected a dac to the pc via usb. Then i found out the dac prevented the pc from going to screen saver or sleep. After a lot of searching I found out disabling the HID device fixed it. But can anyone explain why the dac still works even after disabling the HID? Then what is the point with the HID line in device manager?
