Camp Chef WW36 Not Shutdown?

Someone finished up my cook for me yesterday and I just found out they didn't use the shutdown mode, they just turned the smoker off by the switch. They have a pellet smoker at home so I figured they knew better, but I guess not! I can just clean out the fire pot with the slide release and be good to go? Anything else I should do before using it again?
