Question about lou

I’m on episode 7 or 8 can’t remember exactly but they keep saying lou’s passed on and Sam keeps acknowledging it. At first I thought that Lou was dead as we see her turn into a bt I think in Sam’s shelter when he traps her in the capsule. I thought that Sam was just in denial and that fragile and co gave him a fake or something so that he would go and link up australia. But how am I seeing Lou as normal and hearing her make sounds and such if she’s dead why isn’t she showing as a bt ? Am I missing something or am I meant to be confused as of now, if this gets answered later please do not spoil. What am I supposed to be thinking as of this moment? I just reach the motherhood.
