Unseen battles of the empath
Let me tell you this, even simply saying you're an empathetic person can get you labeled a covert narcissist. There are people out there who are deeply sensitive and genuinely empathetic, and their energy can be drained not just by family, friends, coworkers, or acquaintances, but by anyone. The person draining you could be a random cashier, a stranger in a parking lot, or someone you encounter in a brief, everyday interaction. It’s almost unbelievable, but some people seem to sense your energy like sharks sensing blood in water, and they instinctively move in to take advantage of it.
When this happens multiple times in a single day, it can feel like being sensitive and open-hearted is a curse. Narcissistic people are like emotional parasites, they feed on your energy without a second thought, leaving you exhausted and hollow. And in those low moments, the only self-comfort you can sometimes find is the quiet thought that one day, you'll be free of this cruel world… and the parasites will be left to devour each other into oblivion.
