Change to “Spirit Research Extra Credit” post-evolution update?

I started a new save file recently that has the larger list of spirits to discover compared to the amount of spirits before the update. To finish Zed’s extra credit quest, do I need to evolve all of the 28 spirits to discover all spirits? I’m at 91/122 with two evolutions, but I’m not exactly sure what I’m missing. Can anyone help?
