The Tide of Mind

Poem

Seas of overflowing thoughts. Crash through my restless mind.
I try to stay afloat within,
But the undertow’s unkind.

Choices rise like surging waves,
Then break on me, no shore in sight.
Faces I wish I’d never known,
Haunt the still of night.

The “what if’s” move like currents,
Dragging me toward unseen shore.
Each path I didn’t take
Whispers sweet nothings evermore.

Sinking deep in past mistakes,
Salt stings deeper than before.
Scenarios swell like the tide,
Relentless, impossible to ignore.

Each night the sea grows loud,
I hear its haunting call.
If I could rewrite all I’ve done,
Would it change the dawn at all?

Seas of overflowing thoughts
Come flooding when I’m alone.
Drowning feels too gentle a word
For the depths I’ve always known.
