Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprenticeship

Hi, I am a 19yr old who finished high school last year after that took a gap year to find what interests me. I have found out that I like being a mechanic(HD) and I decided to self indenture and get my blue book to show mechanics am serious about becoming a mechanic. I now work as a welder’s helper and i have no experience in Heavy duty, which is kinda affecting my resume when I apply. I was wondering if you guys could give me advice on how to become more employable in this field. I have got my safety tickets(H2S, First Aid, CSO) so that’s not a problem.
