Prime Day - Can you help me pick out a ceiling fan?
Hi all! I'm in a newly built (2024) home in Ohio, US. I'd love to get a ceiling fan (possibly multiple?)
I haven't quite figured out how to research these devices well enough yet. I'm hoping someone here already knows the answer and can help point me in the right direction. 🙂
What I'm looking for:
- An indoor/outdoor fan
- The house has a "dumb switch" for the fan currently
- I can switch it out with one of my smart switches. I've been using Tapo / Kasa switches by TP-Link and would prefer to keep using those for the fan that way everything matches.
- I'd prefer to be able to control the fan from Home Assistant.
- It needs to be "easy" - Maximum Spouse Approval Rating is required. 😉
- I'd like to be able to change fan speed and fan direction (you know, that little switch you flip in winter/summer?) from Home Assistant
- Budget: ~$200 per fan seems reasonable?
- I've seen this website and don't know if the site or the fans are decent.
Some other fun facts for you:
-
My home automation so far has been to configure everything so it can be controlled "dumb" (my wife and kids can walk up to a switch and press the switch, no problem!)
-
I've got an Aqara M3 Hub. I've got Home Assistant installed using "Server for Home Assistant" on my Mac Studio.
-
It's running the full version of HA, but I don't really have easy access to the VM console. At least... I don't think I do?
And since I feel like it should be mentioned... we're going for that "white farmhouse" kind of look around the house. I'm pretty sure it's already an outdated fad, but I like it and that's what I want. The fan itself doesn't have to look "farmy" but I don't want one of those crazy ones (see link).
And you'll ask me what size I want. I dunno... normal? 🤣
One will go on our covered porch (hence outdoor), and then one in each bedroom and the flex room.
I feel like I've overwhelmed you with information, but I'm really hopeful someone can give me some suggestions.
