Shin pain when jumping
So I started training around the start of the year in late January. It was pretty good progressed relatively fast going once a week or two and managed to get a front tuck on a spring floor (I’ve only trained in gyms and on spring floors). However, at the point I got my front tuck (March) I started to get sharp pain in my shins (feels like my tibia is snapped in two and is rubbing against itself). Because of this, I can’t generate any power in my jumps as it hurts too much and therefore I haven’t been able to land a front tuck since I first got it back in March. I ended up taking a break for about 3-4 weeks (May-June) after I injured my knee (landed on my hands and knees over-rotating a frontuck) until I could kneel without there being pain behind the knee and front of ankle (left side) I then went back. My first week back I took it pretty easy but my shins felt good, with a slight burn but manageable. However, I went again a week later and my shins were back to the sharp pain and so I just spent the session on the trampoline landing onto to ground.
It’s gotten to the point where I can’t enjoy trading as I know it’s holding me back from being able to front tuck consistently. So I’m asking if anyone has had a similar issue when they began and how they fixed it. I have had suggestions from my mate to try long-distance running and skipping to build up some impact but I want to know if I can do anything else like is it ankle strength and mobility, tight calves or weak knees or all three.
For context, I’ve always run and jumped on the balls of my feet and so recently tried landing more on my heel when running. I’ve also always had cramps in my calves and they get very tight and crampy if I squat really deep (bum to floor) and hold it for a bit.
