Moving in before floor is finished
I recently purchased my first house and decided to have floating laminate floors in the upstairs (bedrooms, closets, hallway) installed before moving in. I have young kids and pets and lots of allergies, so these aren’t planned to be our forever floors, but something to get us through for a while. The flooring company came and measured and then ordered materials. They got about 85% done and then apparently ran out of flooring. About 1/4 of a room is not finished. They’ve ordered more material and it should be here next week.
My question is: Is it okay to be living on those floors even though they’re not finished to the wall? (That room is connected with the other bedroom next to it and the hall on continuous flooring. The other bedroom across the hall is supposed to have T-molding at the threshold.)
The flooring company said that it will be fine to move in later this week and put furniture and boxes and such on the rest of the floor and be living in those rooms. Then they’ll come out to finish once the remaining materials are in. I’m concerned that putting weight on the rest of the floor will cause it to stretch out into that open space and add space between planks and the floor will end up weaker and maybe failing earlier. But I’ve never dealt with flooring before and I don’t know if that’s a thing or not. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?
