Christianity and organ/body donation
Hi! I’m wondering what are your opinions on body donation/organ donation. I’m a med student and I’ve already signed up for donating my body after my death to my faculty. So students will dissect my body and learn the human anatomy on me. I think my faculty has a beautiful programme, they plant a tree in your honor in a field next to our building and they do church services in that field. The head of the anatomy department is really respectful to the deceased, he always makes sure the body is covered when no one is learning on that body, he scolds people if they mess with the tissues inappropriately etc. And dissections really helped me in understanding the human body, more than any pc program or textbook. I think religion cares more about the soul and how you treat other living beings. I personally see the act of giving your body to science as an act of kindness (if one decides it’s a good choice for them specifically). Not an insult to God.
(I know it’s rather tricky topic in the US, since in the US middle men buy bodies from the families of the deceased and they then sell them to medical schools, but I live in Europe. You yourself sign up for body donation, you can withdraw at any point and there’s no financial compensation, the faculty may pay for the funeral without body, but the body itself is not sold, it’s donated)
