My dad never actually shows he thinks of me as his own

My technically step dad (i refer to him as dad to others as its easier than explaining my bio dad left when I was young) has never really acted in a fatherly way towards me and I genuinely didnt even know he cared about me until my mum said he did after around 10 years of him being my step dad. He never comforts me or anything hes just angry or mad at me if something bad happens to me even if its not my fault HE GETS MAD AT ME. My mum says he shows he cares by being mad and angry but why tf is that his only way?? Im lucky hes only hit me once but it feels like hes wanted to lots of times after 😭
