What is the timeline for our understanding of the age of the universe?

I seem to recall in undergrad Astronomy (1993ish) that the universe was estimated to be 10 billion years old. When did we move away from the infinite/biblical dichotomy and at what point was it fine tuned to the most current understanding of ~14 billion years old?
