House decorations keep moving - any way to fix?

I spent time setting up a jewel and scroll display on a shelf in bloodchill cavern only to find an earthquake apparently happened while I was gone. Stuff was everywhere.

I read that maybe dropping then leaving and returning, THEN putting stuff where I want could work… can anyone confirm this?
