Wholesalers and Contractors, let’s talk caulk!!
Hi Folks,
I work for a sealant and adhesive OEM that you’ve probably never heard of. We are a small, relatively young company, and offer a pretty standard product line including RTV silicone, latex based caulks and adhesives, firestop, lubricants, etc.
We are interested in aggressively growing our name brand product line, however I recognize that we mostly produce and sell commoditized goods into well established markets that aren’t receptive to new players/disruption.
Looking for honest, general feedback from wholesalers and contractors on their relationship with these goods:
- are there any niche features, packaging options, product capabilities, etc that would sway you to try a new brand of caulk, or consider switching vendors?
- are there products missing from your market as construction evolves, that you find difficult to source due to limited manufacturer options?
- in general, do most caulk manufacturers work well with you folks in distribution and ship quickly? Whats the typical pain point on these materials?
- i’ve never worked in wholesale distribution, so curious what you like to see in a vendor in general: if i call you or walk into your store to introduce our line, is that a bother since these are typically low volume items? How do you prefer to be approached, and followed up with?
Thanks in advance for any advice - all is welcome!!
